BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS
A number of factors can contribute to premature aging of facial skin. Exposure to ultraviolet rays in sunlight, poor diet, stress, lack of sleep and even heredity can cause you to look older than your years. Fortunately, a variety of products are available at our Commack and Massapequa locations to help reduce lines and wrinkles in facial skin and can help give you a younger, fresher appearance.
Botox is a compound that contains a toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. This toxin was found to reduce lines in the face and is also used for a number of medical problems. The compound is injected into certain muscles to block the nerves, which prevent muscles in the area from contracting and deepening lines. A small amount of local anesthetic is often used to prevent discomfort during the procedure. The effects generally last for 3 to 12 months. Botox is generally well tolerated, but side effects can include pain, bruising or swelling at the site of the injection.
Fillers are composed of natural or synthetic compounds that create more plumpness in the skin. These compounds are injected under the skin to reduce fine lines and depressions in the skin surface, giving it a fuller, younger appearance. Although fillers cannot lift areas of the face, they can improve the facial appearance significantly and last from 8 to 12 months. These compounds can be used to enhance shallow areas of the face, soften wrinkles, plump the lips or improve the appearance of scars.
